Climbing in the Icefall: Day 23

This is just a quick post to let you know that we will be departing for Camp 1 at 3am local (about 7.5 hours from now). Hopefully I can get a few hours sleep.

We climbed about a couple hours into the icefall today. It was a good practice run for us. Then we had buffalo steak for dinner and cheesecake for dessert. Yum!

Our guide, Ben, will be updating the AAI cybercast while we are on rotation so you can check-in on their website (the link is on my blog home page) for the next four days for status updates. I won’t be able to post again until we return to Base Camp which should be 27 April.

See you in a few days!

Preparing for the First Rotation: Days 19-22

Day 19: This was a full rest day for us and a day of remembrance for the 2014 icefall tragedy. Our guides spent the day walking around Base Camp talking to other teams to get a feel for when they were going up for their first rotation. Our goal is not to go up with crowds of other teams. After their recon mission, our guides determined that we would leave for our first rotation on 23 April.
